Freight Class

Freight class definition and illustration

Freight Class or Freight Classification:

Freight class or freight classification is a number assigned to less than truckload (LTL) shipments based on weight, size, density, handling, value, and liability.

18 freight classes defined by the National Motor Freight Classification® (NMFC®) system allow carriers in the United States to use uniform pricing. Lower class usually implies a lower shipping cost.
